Introducing Longvida® Optimised Curcumin

65x higher peak plasma levels, 285x greater bioavailability and 7x longer-lasting action than standard curcumin!!

The latest product launch from Igennus Healthcare Nutrition is Longvida® Optimised Curcumin – a highly soluble, highly stable form of ultra-bioavailable curcumin – to our knowledge, the most advanced curcumin formula in the world.  Longvida Optimised Curcumin maximises the therapeutic potential of curcumin via its patented protective Solid Lipid Curcumin Particle (SLCP) delivery  system. SLCP technology enables curcumin to bypass the liver and is protected against enzymic metabolism, ensuring the delivery of curcumin in the free, active form.

Most standard curcumin products fail to deliver therapeutic benefits because they deliver conjugated (non-active) forms of curcumin that are, by their nature, easily and rapidly excreted by the body. Since the body cannot excrete curcumin in the free form, Longvida Optimised Curcumin offers significantly longer biological action.  With free curcumin the only form of curcumin proven to cross the blood-brain barrier, Longvida offers unprecedented antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits for both body and brain.  With the multiple therapeutic benefits scientifically attributed to curcumin, and with Longvida’s enhanced bioavailability, we are delighted to bring this natural compound to the forefront of our therapeutic range. With potent anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits, Longvida Optimised Curcumin is particularly synergistic with EPA-rich supplements, especially Pharmepa RESTORE & MAINTAIN.

Overcoming bioavailability issues

Curcumin is a polyphenolic molecule extracted from turmeric root (Curcuma longa), a yellow spice most commonly encountered as a spice.  This natural compound has been used over centuries in Ayurvedic, Chinese and Hindu traditional medicine to treat a number of both minor and chronic conditions.   Numerous studies have demonstrated that curcumin possesses antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer properties. Standard curcumin’s main disadvantage is, however, its low oral bioavailability.  Because curcumin has poor aqueous solubility, very little gets into the circulation and it simply passes through the body via the gastrointestinal system. Any curcumin that is absorbed, undergoes extensive first-pass metabolism, optimising its efficient excretion by the kidneys. Thus, the majority of standard curcumin is simply excreted. The focus of the nutrition research into curcumin has been to find ways of increasing curcumin bioavailability in order to overcome excretion and deliver curcumin to tissues.

Longvida® patented delivery technology

The barrier to curcumin’s potential therapeutic possibilities have been overcome by Longvida technology. Longvida provides a unique coating (of highly purified fatty acids and phospholipids) that surrounds the curcumin molecule and enables it to be transported into the lymphatic system rather than the circulatory system.  Unlike the circulatory system, the lymphatic system bypasses the liver (the major organ for metabolism), therefore less curcumin is exposed to metabolic enzymes and remains in a free form. The sole purpose of these metabolic enzymes is to attach large groups (called glucuronides or sulphates) to the curcumin molecule, making it very bulky but also highly water soluble so it can be rapidly excreted by the kidneys and out of the body in urine. These enzymes cannot reach the curcumin in Longvida! The protective nature of Longvida ensures it stays as the free form, allowing it to stay in the body longer because it isn’t metabolised and doesn’t have these water soluble groups attached to it – this naturally increases its duration of action.

Therapeutic application

Longvida is one of the very few curcumin dosage forms to show stability of free curcumin in the bloodstream, meaning extended release with just a single small daily dose. In a clinical study, a simple 650 mg single dose Longvida® Optimised Curcumin showed 65x higher peak plasma levels, 285x times greater bioavailability and 7x longer-lasting action than standard curcumin.[1] With doses as low as 400 mg daily shown to reduce a number of pro-inflammatory markers whilst  increasing antioxidant capacity,[2] each 500mg capsule of Longvida Optimised Curcumin will deliver optimal health benefits.  With the additional ability of Longvida Optimised Curcumin to cross the blood-brain barrier and clear B-amyloid plaques,[2,3] Longvida is the first curcumin supplement to extend the therapuetic potential of curcumin to the brain.
